Childrens Art Week

This week it’s Children’s Arts Week, where thousands of children, young people and their families will be getting involved in all kinds of visual arts activities. As our Arts Award Supporters are a good ol’ bunch, lots of them are putting on special events. Here’s our round up of just a selection that are taking place across the country - and they can all be used towards Arts Award!

De la Warr Pavilion, Bexhill-on-Sea

Rother Arts Champions are a group of young people who champion the arts locally. They’ll be presenting ‘Brilliant Horizon’ – a weekend of free events on 20 and 21 June. Delights will include a curved kite workshop on Saturday, a special screening of Tomorrow? (a short film by the Champions), and Sunday will see the inaugural performance of the Hastings and Rother Complaints Choir – a group of people, literally singing, their complaints. Rousing stuff!

BALTIC, Gateshead

Get down to the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art to see an exhibition by pupils and teachers from Monkwearmouth Academy. Working with artist Paul Merrick, the group explored the urban landscapes and architectural details of BALTIC, Newcastle and Gateshead. The exhibition is on all week.

Jupiter Artland, Edinburgh

As well as being able to explore the wonderful sculptures dotted throughout Jupiter Artland’s grounds, family visitors to the one-of-a-kind sculpture park between the 18 and 21 of June will also have the chance to take  part in a special preview of the Creative Families summer programme. Free drop-in ‘create and make’ sessions will be running, as well as brand new activity sheets based on Jupiter Artlands’ temporary exhibitions.

ArtBugs, Harrogate

ArtBugs are running a drop-in workshop for families on Sunday 21 June to make Fathers Day trophies – let’s hear it for all the Top Dads!

The Bluecoat, Liverpool

The Bluecoat are hosting an afternoon of free family arts activities on Sunday 21 June based on their current photography exhibition. Families can explore the work of photographers and create their own joint masterpieces.

Half Moon Theatre, London

Between Monday 15 and Friday 19 June, Half Moon will be exhibiting A Stitch in Time: Reflections from Childhood by artist Deborah Andrews. Her work incorporates intricate machine embroidered works, etchings and digital prints made from observational drawings, and invites you to hark back to quintessential childhood memories like exploring the beach, or digging in the garden. Lovely stuff.
